Nau mai, haere mai ki te pae tukutuku o Ngāti Kere

This digital archive celebrates our rich Ngāti Kere heritage, connecting us to the stories, values, images, histories and aspirations of Ngāti Kere, Ngāti Manuhiri, Ngāti Pīhere and Ngāti Hine-te-wai. Here, you will encounter the Haurongo (biographies written by Marina Sciascia and Hilary Pederson), Tīpuna (ancestor photos), Ataata (films/videos/tapes made by or about Ngāti Kere), Kōrero (historical pieces), and Papers (a collection of interesting documents). All these taonga capture pivotal moments in our history, and honour those who have shaped and strengthened our community. Each piece in this archive serves as a bridge, linking us to our past, affirming our present, and inspiring our future. Through engaging with these stories and histories, we collectively uphold the strength of our whakapapa and the legacy of Ngāti Kere whānui.

This is the beginning of an ongoing project. There is much to add. The intention is that those with a passion to learn have a place to search our stories. Those with a passion to share have a place to exhibit, discuss and distribute those parts of our shared cultural history that are understood by you. This site is a beginning, not an end. All contributors have been keen to see their material shared.

This site is publicly available. All the material is available from other sources – we have just collected into one place. There is a future opportunity to develop a restricted access for some items to registered members of the hapū – or even just to members of your whānau. There will be more developments and that this archive will grow as you participate. In particular, we will develop collections of other hapū who affiliate to Tamateapōkaiwhenua PSGE. Whilst the appearance of this site will change in the coming year, the content will remain.

Ko te manu e kai i te miro, nōna te ngāhere. Ko te manu e kai ana i te mātauranga, nōna te ao. (The pursuit of knowledge is an opening to a much wider world)
