Nepia.Whakamāoritanga | TranslationTe Uhi Wairoa 28 November 1874
To Henare Matua. Friend, greetings to you in God's commemorative works. That concludes the greetings.
Your letter of the 9th of November has reached us and we have seen it. Friend, here are the places where we are steadfast, and here are the places where we are not steadfast. It is right that the land alienation at Turanga and the land alienation at Te Kauru at Te Wairoa - this alienation is contrary to Maori custom.
Friend, seek out procedures for Tukemokihi, for Kahuitara, for Ngametepo and others who are being steadfast - there are nine people. Friend, send us a certificate template

as a document for the people only, whether they are alive or for those whose debts have been purchased by the Pakeha.
Friend, we have sent our letter requesting certificates to the Governor on the 28th of November 1874.
Friend, so that your issuing of those certificates may be clear, write down whether the people sold or whether they did not sell, so that the hapu and the people may understand. Those who did not sell - this lease is the problem. So friend, thank you, be strong in seeking
