8 December 1893 Saturday This will was written at Waipawa Page 2:This is the will and final testament of me, Henare Matua of Porangahau in the Provincial District of Hawke's Bay, a Maori chief of the Colony of New Zealand. I direct that all my just debts be paid and satisfied, and that payment be made to my wife Hauma Matua of twenty-five pounds annually for her maintenance while she remains unmarried, but should she marry, then such payment shall cease entirely. Payment shall likewise be made to her child Ani Hauma of twenty-five pounds annually for her maintenance while she remains unmarried, but should she marry, then such payment shall cease entirely. I give, devise and bequeath all my interests in lands to which I am entitled, whether Crown granted to me or awarded by the Native Land Court, together with my money, property and all other things I possess or which may be due to me at my death, to my children Tuakana Tipene, Merehina Tipene, Te Ruahuihui Tipene and Te Otene Tipene, in equal shares as their absolute property for them and their descendants who may survive them. I hereby appoint my younger brother Tipene Matua as executor of this my will, and I revoke all former wills made by me. I declare this to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have set my hand to this document this eleventh day of December one thousand eight hundred and ninety-three. Signed by the said testator Henare Matua who declared this to be his last will and testament in our presence, we being present at the same time, and we have hereunto subscribed our names as witnesses.
