The letters sent from here and the telegrams that came from outside have arrived, along with local news. Urupene and his parents have arrived to mourn Makereta. I was informed about the proceedings of the meeting held at Pakohai, including Tomoana's request for Te Urewera to vote for him as a member of Parliament, and for Taupo, Te Arawa, Ngai Te Rangi, Ngati Awa, Ngai Tai, Te Whakatohea, Te Whanau Apanui, and Ngati Porou to cast their vote as well. People have been sent to fetch votes from these tribes. Tomoana personally went to Turanga to request Rongowhakaata’s vote for himself. That is the situation. After this rainy period, I shall go to Napier where I will meet with Raniera Putauhinu. He will convey to me the message from the tribes staying at Pakohai, requesting that I go there. These tribes requesting me to go are Ngati Tuwharetoa, Ngati Pehi, Ngati Te Rangiita, Ngati Tama, Ngati Raukawa ki te Waotu, and the people of Heretaunga. They are seeking my thoughts about the member vote - whether I agree to be the candidate for Parliament or whether I agree to support Tomoana.

It is acceptable, however, the thoughts of the tribes who have already decided are in line with your suggestion - that is, me for that vote. Henare Tomoana is causing trouble among the tribes, which is why I was asked to go. So, I have gone to listen to that word. If questioned, my position is that I cannot resolve this matter, that is, to give the vote to Tomoana, given the strict protocols of the voting organiser as outlined in the electoral guidelines. Furthermore, some people from Pakipaki informed me of additional concerns, the practices of that vote requester are very evil. My only regret is the absence of the committee to guide me, because this work of voting for me for Parliament is not mine, but yours and that tribe and that tribe’s vote.
