To Henare Matua. Greetings to you and to all the committee members. May God protect you and your entire committee, may you all be well, amen. That concludes the greetings.
Take heed, Locke has arrived here in Wairoa and we have discussed the obstruction of the telegraph wire. This is what Locke said - that they would come and get us to be shot for obstructing the wire. Our response to this is: if you wish to come and kill the elderly and the children, let them be killed by you, let them be speared, beware lest you waste [life] through corruption. That concludes that matter. This is another matter for you and the committee - it is up to you to decide what you think is appropriate. If you see fit to respond quickly, that is all.
To Te Harawhira and their family
To Tamati Kaikino
To Paraone Hakihaki
To Te Ropiha and their family
To Henare Matua and all your committees
